Grid-Connected Solar

On-Grid Solar with Net Metering

Your roof powers the house by day. The surplus goes to the grid. Your bill is worked out on the net.

An on-grid system is the simplest and most cost-effective way to bring down an electricity bill. There is no battery to buy or replace. Paso Solar sizes it to your usage and roof, installs it, and supports the net metering application with your DISCOM.

Where the savings come from

An on-grid system lowers your bill in two ways. Understanding both helps you size it sensibly.

You stop buying what you use by day

Every unit your panels feed straight into the house is a unit you do not buy from the grid at full tariff. This is the largest part of the saving, so the more of your use that falls in daylight, the better on-grid works.

Surplus earns a credit

When the panels make more than the house is using, the extra goes to the grid. Where net metering is approved, your meter records it and the DISCOM adjusts it against what you draw later, at the rate set by their policy.

A running cost that stays low

No fuel, no battery replacement. Upkeep is panel cleaning and a periodic check. Once it is paid off, the electricity it makes is effectively free for the life of the panels.

Some cover against tariff rises

Grid tariffs tend to rise most years. The share of your electricity you generate yourself is not exposed to those increases.

A unit you use yourself is usually worth more than a unit you export, because the export credit is often lower than the retail tariff. That is why we size the system to your own consumption rather than as large as the roof allows.

How an on-grid system works

In plain terms, the grid does the job a battery would.

During the day

Your panels power whatever the house is using at that moment. If they make more than you need, the extra flows out through the meter to the grid.

At night and on dull days

The house runs on the grid as it always did. There is no battery holding solar power back for later.

On the bill

Where net metering applies, the DISCOM works out the difference between the units you imported and the units you exported, and bills you on that net figure.

In a power cut

The system switches off for safety until the grid returns. An on-grid system on its own does not give you backup.

What is in an on-grid system

Fewer parts than any other type of solar system, which is part of why it costs less and needs less looking after.

Solar panels and mounting

Sized to your roof and usage, on a structure rated for local wind conditions.

Grid-tied inverter

Converts DC to AC and manages the flow between your home and the grid. It also shuts the system down automatically if the grid fails.

Generation and net meters

A meter that records what the system produces, and the DISCOM's bidirectional meter that records import and export.

Safety and protection gear

AC and DC isolation, surge protection, and earthing to the standard your connection requires.

Monitoring

An app or portal so you can see daily generation and spot a problem early.

A note on net metering

Net metering is granted by your DISCOM, subject to their current policy, feeder capacity, and sanctioned load. We prepare and file the application with you and follow it through to meter change and commissioning, but the approval and the credit terms are set by the utility, not by us.

Where on-grid solar fits best

On-grid works hardest where the grid is dependable and a good part of the electricity use happens in daylight.

Independent homes

Reliable grid connection and some daytime use at home.

Shops and showrooms

Lights, fans, air-conditioning, and refrigeration running through business hours.

Clinics and offices

Steady 9-to-6 load that solar can cover directly from the roof.

Schools and institutions

High weekday daytime demand and large roof or shade-structure area.

On-grid, hybrid, or off-grid?

The right choice comes down to whether you need backup and whether you have a grid connection at all.

On-grid solar questions

Does an on-grid system work during a power cut?

No. When the grid goes down, an on-grid system shuts off automatically so it cannot feed power back into lines that a lineman may be working on. Supply returns when the grid is back. If you need power through an outage, you need batteries, which means a hybrid or off-grid system.

Do I need a battery with on-grid solar?

No. An on-grid system uses the grid in place of a battery. You send surplus power out during the day and draw it back at night. A battery is only needed if you want backup during outages.

How does the net metering credit work?

Where net metering is approved by your DISCOM, a bidirectional meter records the units you export as well as the units you import. Your bill is then raised on the difference. The credit rate, carry-forward, and any year-end settlement follow your DISCOM's current net metering policy, which we explain for your connection.

What size system should I install?

We look at your recent bills, how much of your use is in daytime, your usable roof area, shading, and your sanctioned load. A system much larger than your own consumption or your sanctioned load usually does not pay back well, so we size it to match.

Is a subsidy available?

A residential rooftop subsidy scheme applies to eligible homes and system sizes. We check what you currently qualify for and prepare the paperwork with you. Approval and the final amount rest with the authority.

What if I use more electricity than I generate?

You draw the balance from the grid and pay for it at your normal tariff. Any credit from power you exported earlier is adjusted first, where net metering applies.

What upkeep does an on-grid system need?

Cleaning the panels a few times a year, more where there is heavy dust, and a periodic check of the inverter, wiring, and earthing. There is no battery to replace and no fuel to arrange.

Quality Standards

  • We pick panels and inverters that suit your roof and budget, not just the cheapest option.
  • Mounting, wiring, and safety checks are done properly, never rushed.
  • You get clear documents showing exactly what was designed and installed.
  • Full records are handed over so any future service is easy.

Safety Standards

  • We plan for electrical safety before any work begins.
  • Earthing and safety devices are checked and verified.
  • Our team follows safe practices while working on your roof.
  • Everything is tested before the system goes live.

Warranty and Support

  • Panel and inverter warranties come directly from the manufacturer, confirmed in writing before installation.
  • Our own installation work is covered too, with the terms clearly written in your project document.
  • We offer maintenance plans to keep your system running well for years.
  • You get all warranty paperwork once the system is commissioned.
